Featured Story | Former Dept. Head Frank Tillman passes away
Frank Tillman, emeritus faculty for the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering department at Kansas State University, passed away on Feb. 26, 2017.
Tillman joined the IMSE department in 1965 after he completed his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Iowa. He became the K-State IE department head in 1966 and served in that capacity for more than 20 years. He was a strong leader who was instrumental in developing the K-State industrial engineering Ph.D. program and founding of the KSU Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. Tillman was involved nationally in Alpha Pi Mu and ABET accreditation, and became a fellow of Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. He was an active CIEADH member and a key leader in establishing the IISE student regional technical conferences. He actively sought to promote the industrial engineering profession throughout his life. For example, Frank led the development of the first IE recruiting film that many of you may have seen, “The Story of Joe Ogg – the First Industrial Engineer” that Kansas State produced in the 1960s.
