Recent Advances in The Grinding of Ceramics and Hard Metals

Abstract: In order to achieve the efficient and precise grinding of ceramics and hard metals, several new and effective techniques have been developed. They are: 'Rapid feed deep grinding method' for highly efficient grinding; an 'Ultrasonic grinding attachment' to be mounted on a machine spindle; a new complex grinding method 'Ultrasonic-Electro-Discharge-Grinding' for extremely difficult-to-machine materials; a new truing method, 'On-machine Electro-Discharge Truing' for metal bond wheels, and others. Finally a new 'hybrid grinding center', which permits the efficient and precise grinding of ceramics and hard metals, has been built incorporating the above new techniques.
